The final standings of the 4th IHF Wheelchair Handball World Championship are taking shape, after eight teams finished their campaign at Spain 2026.

Brazil beat Egypt in a rematch of the 2022 edition final, 2:0, to take the fifth place, while France dished a 2:0 win against USA, to end up seventh.

With three wins in the Placement Group 9-12, Lithuania ended ninth, followed by India, Libya and Australia in the lower part of the standings.

PLACEMENT MATCH 5/6
Egypt vs Brazil 0:2 (7:9; 2:13)

With two of the strongest teams traditionally fighting for the fifth place this time, after losses in the quarter-final, Brazil and Egypt bowed out after a strong fight, one which eventually was won by Brazil, which will surely lament their loss against Spain.

The South American sent out their strongest team on the court and produced a great performance, with Djunior Vaz leading the way with eight points, Guilherme Lourenço adding five points and Jordean Rodrigues four.

Magdy Talaat Abdo Abbas had eight points for Egypt and virtually locked in his second top scorer award in the competition, but could not avoid another loss for Egypt – their third in this event – which saw the African side, champions in the previous edition, finish sixth.

PLACEMENT MATCH 7/8
France vs United States of America 2:0 (11:1; 8:4)

France ended the competition on a high, with a clear 2:0 win over last edition’s silver medallists, the USA, who only managed to score five points in the two sets played in this match.

Only three players went on the scoresheet for France – Fatih Cuhadar (eight points), Mathieu De Cillia (seven points) and Thomas Dauzet Vangeon (four points), but France were not really in any danger of conceding a loss, especially in the first set, which they took comfortably, 11:1.

The second one was more balanced, but the European side were in total control, as their defence worked well, with only the attack not registering a better output. But after the USA took a 4:3 lead, they never scored in the last six minutes and France went on a 5:0 unanswered run to take the set.

France finished seventh, with USA eighth, both registering their lowest placements in their participations at the IHF Wheelchair Handball World Championship.

Australia vs India 0:2 (2:8; 1:13)
Libya vs Lithuania 0:2 (8:12; 6:8)

Lithuania ended up on the ninth place, followed by India, after the Placement Group 9-12 has concluded at the 2026 IHF Wheelchair Handball World Championship.

Lithuania swept their opponents, conceding only one set in the last two days and had no issues against Libya in their last match at Spain 2026, taking a 2:0 win.

Edgaras Ciaplinskas had nine points, followed by Dalius Zymantas, with six points, as a midway run in the second set saw Lithuania end up with three wins.

India followed suit and dominated Australia, with a clear 2:0 win, where they outscored their opponents 21 to three. It was India’s second win and a tenth-place finish, while Australia finished last, with five losses in five matches, with Libya ending up 11th in their debut participation in the competition.
