GuatemalaCoach: Carlos Jose Alvarez Moran
At Bulgaria 2023, Guatemala are the only team who are making their debut at the IHF Men's Emerging Nations Championship. For each of their players, it is the first opportunity to participate in an event of this calibre.
In Group C, they will face Cuba and Great Britain, and while the debutants are facing a challenging task, the team coached by Carlos Alvarez hope to put on a good performance and make their fans happy with some positive results.
This year, the national team of Guatemala participated in the 2023 Central American Men's Handball Championship in Nicaragua, where they finished third. A number of members of that squad are expected to play key roles in Varna – for example, Ubaldo Herrera and Edwin Martinez, who both boast vast international experience as they also played at the Pan American Championship and other events in the past.
All the players from the Guatemala team represent domestic clubs that are not professional. However, the Central American team hope to have a good tournament and get some experience which might be helpful in future.
