Hosts Canada seal title at the 2025 Women's IHF Trophy North America and the Caribbean (Junior)
23 Jul. 2025

The 2025 Women's IHF Trophy North America and the Caribbean (Junior) took place between 16 and 20 July in Drummondville, Quebec, Canada, with six teams lining up at the start. The top two sides, Canada and the United States of America, secured their tickets for the 2026 IHF Women’s Junior World Championship.
Hosts Canada, Greenland, Mexico, Puerto Rico, St Kitts and Nevis and the United States of America took part in the competition, which was played over five days in a round-robin format, with the winner being the team with the largest number of points.
There was no team with a maximum number of points, with tough battles on the court, which yielded two draws in the second day of the competition, as well as some very close matches, including three one-goal wins throughout the competition, which proved to be pivotal.
Hosts Canada, with a generation which already took part at the 2024 IHF Women’s Youth World Championship, finished first, with eight points, starting off strong with a 38:22 win over Puerto Rico and another win over St Kitts and Nevis. Another clear 26:22 win against fellow title hopefuls USA put them in a strong position of winning.
Nevertheless, Canada’s hopes of securing the title on their home court received a strong dent, after they conceded a 34:35 loss against Mexico, but everything was going to be decided in the last match of the competition, against Greenland.
At half-time, Canada were down, 13:14, but a strong second half, where they limited Greenland to only nine goals scored, saw the hosts clinch the title with a 28:23 win, where Florence Boisclair and Mahely Lemaire each scored six goals, while Maxim Reid had five goals.
The second place went to the USA, which started with a 22:21 win over Mexico, but then followed up with a 28:28 draw against Puerto Rico and a 22:26 loss against Canada. The USA side finished off strong, with a pivotal 31:22 win over Greenland and a clear win over St Kitts and Nevis, securing the second place in the standings, with seven points.
Greenland, Puerto Rico and Mexico all finished with five points, but in the three-way tie, Greenland and Puerto Rico were separated by the goal difference, with both having three points, with Greenland eventually finishing on the podium.
Canada and the USA have secured their tickets for the 2026 IHF Women’s Junior World Championship, with the North American and Caribbean Handball Confederation having two spots open for the competition.
Canada will return for the first time since 1999 at the IHF Women's Junior World Championship, while the USA are due to play for the fifth time in history and for the third time in a row in the world handball flagship competition.
