Perfect record keeps Denmark alone on top of Group D

Denmark continued their winning run through the 2019 IHF Men’s Junior World Championship on Friday, beating Pan American champions Argentina by eight goals and adding their third straight victory at Spain 2019. The Scandinavian team thereby sit on top of Group D as the only team with the maximum six points.

Denmark finished with a clear victory over Argentina, but they were not completely dominant throughout the match. The first half ended with a narrow score line of two goals and the Pan American side were also within three goals in the last 10 minutes. 

In goal for Denmark, Salah Boutaf had another solid match, with 13 saves at 36%. In attack, the Scandinavians were once again led by left back Emil Laerke, with a tally of six goals. For Argentina, Ignacio Tomas Lopez Perez also contributed six goals.  

Argentina did a great job of keeping close on the score board, and were within one goal in the 30th minute – but Denmark resumed the match far stronger and were quick to open a more decisive advantage. Keeping the Pan American champions out of the goal for six minutes in the second half, Denmark added four goals of their own and turned the difference of two into six, 17:11, before Argentina scored their first of the period. 

Denmark streaked ahead to 22:14 in the 42nd minute, before Argentina staged a comeback that saw them decrease the deficit to three at 21:24 in the 53rd and 22:25 in the 54th. However, they could not close the gap completely and Denmark recorded a 6:1 partial to the whistle that led to their commanding victory.
