Following an invitation by Michael Wiederer, President of the European Handball Federation (EHF), IHF President Dr Hassan Moustafa visited Cologne, Germany from 25-28 May 2018 to attend the VELUX EHF FINAL4 2018. The weekend started with the European Handball Talks, which were centred around the topics brand management and community building in the digital age as well as digitalisation and technology in sport. On 26 May, a joint meeting with the EHF and Forum Club Handball (FCH) was held regarding the development of handball in the USA to discuss the possibility of a partnership with EHF and FCH in view of handball on TV, top level events, player exchanges, national teams’ tours and educational programmes. Afterwards, Dr Moustafa met with the Managing Director of THW Kiel, Thorsten Storm, and Dr Gerd Butzeck, FCH Managing Director, to discuss the development in China. Following the meetings, he watched the two semi-finals which saw Paris Saint-Germain HB lose against HBC Nantes, while Montpellier HB beat 2017 champions HC Vardar Skopje. On Sunday, 27 May, the IHF President attended the 19th General Assembly of Forum Club Handball before he went on to watch the final matches of the VELUX EHF FINAL4 2018, at which more than 18,000 fans celebrated handball in the arena, creating an unforgettable atmosphere. After 15 years, Montpellier HB won club handball’s most coveted trophy for a second time, HBC Nantes claimed silver and Paris Saint-Germain HB took bronze, thus making it a historic French podium.
