On 13 March 2017, IHF President Dr Moustafa participated in a mutual meeting between the International Handball Federation and the European Handball Federation at the IHF Head Office in Basle, Switzerland. EHF President Michael Wiederer, Dragan Nachevski, Chairman of the EHF Technical Refereeing Committee (TRC) and Markus Glaser, EHF Senior Manager Competitions travelled to Switzerland to discuss amongst others refereeing issues, such as cooperation between IHF and EHF, the nomination of referees, the Global Referee Training Programme and female referee couples. After the rules and regulations were addressed, the participants dealt with the 2nd Emerging Nations Men’s Championship 2017 in Bulgaria and a World Selection match in Belarus. Furthermore the Rio 2016 Olympic Games were reviewed.
