On the fringes of the 40th edition of the CAHB African Championship of Champion Clubs in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire, which finished just over a week ago, the African Handball Confederation (CAHB) organised their 21st Ordinary Working Congress at its headquarters in the capital city with 27-member countries participating.

IHF President Dr Hassan Moustafa, along with Cote d’Ivoire’s Sports Minister, His Excellency Claud Paulin Danho were among the VIPs in attendance in the congress, hosted by CAHB President Mansourou Aremou,

Amongst many working items on the varied agenda were awards for the best federations of the year 2016-18 and a CAHB Board meeting which saw the awarding of future events.

The next continental event in Africa will be the 2018 CAHB Women’s African Championship, which takes place from 2-12 December in Congo, and which is the 23rd time it has been hosted.

The winners of the tournament will qualify directly to the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan, while the top three will qualify through to the 2019 IHF Women’s World Championship, to be held in December, also in Japan.

The teams have been drawn into two groups with Group A featuring Tunisia, Cameroon, Cote d’Ivoire, Senegal and Algeria while Group B features Angola, DR Congo, Guinea, Morocco and hosts Congo.

The top four in each group go straight through to the quarter-finals with all games being held in the Complexe Sportif de Kintélé, outside of Congo’s capital Brazzaville.
