The spirit of the World Championship is upon us and even though the women are still competing for the gold, it is also time to look forward to the next exciting World Championships in 2019 where the Men’s tournament is organised in Germany and Denmark in the period from 10 to 27 January.

On Thursday 14 December 2017 at 10.00, it will be possible to buy the first tickets for the Men’s World Championship 2019. The tickets are sold online at the official event website www.handball19.com.

Mark Schober, Secretary General of the German Handball Association, is happy to announce the opening of the ticket sale: “The presale is a great opportunity for handball fans all over the world to buy the perfect Christmas gift. If you want to be absolutely sure to get a ticket for the World Championship, you should buy it now.”

The joint hosts of Germany and Denmark look forward to inviting fans and teams to yet another exciting World Championship. Secretary General of the Danish Handball Association, Morten Stig Christensen, is almost more excited about the presale than he is about Christmas Eve:

“I can only say that you need to be quick at your computer as only a small amount of the tickets are offered for sale before Christmas. If you are not lucky now, don’t give up because a further number of tickets are offered for sale after the EHF EURO 2018 in February 2018. The remaining part of the tickets will be offered for sale after the draw in June 2018, where we know the exact match schedule.”

Germany and Denmark joint hosts

The 26th IHF Men’s World Championship is organised in the two handball-loving countries of Germany and Denmark. The opening game of the World Championship is played in Berlin, Germany on 10 January 2019 whereas the final is played in Herning, Denmark on 27 January 2019.

As organisers, the teams of Germany and Denmark are already qualified and will play in Group A in Berlin and Group C in Herning, respectively. However, the first match of team Denmark will be played in Copenhagen. Either France or Croatia will play their matches in the preliminary round in Group B  and either Sweden or Norway will play in Group D in Copenhagen in the group phase.

In June 2018, after the draw, all remaining tickets will be offered for sale and after this date the German and Danish organisers will also consider sale of session tickets for individual matches in autumn. During the presale for the German venues only so-called venue-tickets for all the matches will be offered with a special discount.

About the host nations

The two proud handball nations of Germany and Denmark, both ranked in the top 3 on the IHF ranking table, will organise the 26th IHF Men’s World Championship together as joint hosts. Accumulated, the two nations have great experience in organising international championships: Germany organised the first World Championship in 1938 and has since then hosted an international championship nine times, while Denmark has hosted a European or World Championship seven times in total.

When the World Championship is played in Denmark and Germany in January 2019, world class men’s handball is available in six different arenas. In Germany, Group A is played in the Mercedes-Benz Arena in Berlin (14,800 spectators) and Group B is played in Olympiahalle in Munich (12,000). In Denmark, where the event is arranged with Sport Event Denmark as a partner, Group C is played in Jyske Bank Boxen in Herning (15,000), where also one main round and the final are played. Group D is played in the Royal Arena in Copenhagen (13,500). The other main round is played in LANXESS Arena in Cologne (19,250). The semifinals are played in Barclaycard Arena in Hamburg (13,300).
