Qatar is on a roll – after winning the silver medal at the 2015 Men’s World Championship, they qualified for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio and now, they succeeded in defending their title as Asian Champions.

The 28th of January started with the third-place play-off where Japan faced Saudi Arabia. Unimpressed, Japan outclassed their opponents and after 12:7 at half-time, they won by 25:16.

The final promised to be thrilling with Qatar and Bahrain being unbeaten up to then. In addition, the two teams faced each other already in the 2014 final, where Qatar defeated Bahrain only narrowly by one goal (27:26). This year, Qatar left no doubt that they are the best Asian team right now. After the half-time whistle and a one-goal lead (12:11), they pulled away and won clearly 27:22.

As 2015 Men’s World Championship silver medallists, Qatar were already qualified for the 2017 Men’s World Championship. Bahrain, Japan and Saudi Arabia follow.
