The team of Faroe Islands was the first team to secure their place in the final of the IHF Emerging Nations Tournament when they managed to beat Kosovo in the semi-final in front of more than 1000 fans in Prishtina. The score was quite close for more than 50 minutes, the first half ended 17:15 for Faroe Islands and Kosovo even managed to lead 21:20 early in the second half. But this was followed by a scoring run of Faroe Islands of 9 goals and an overturn of the score to 30:22. The match ended 31:23 and marked the second victory of Faroe Islands versus Kosovo in this tournament, having previously beaten the host nation in the group phase.
Latvia beat Uruguay in the second semi-final and will thus face Faroe Island tomorrow in the final. Latvia won 25:21, with advantage created right on the ending minutes of the game. First half ended 11:10 for Latvia and during the next 20 minutes they could not separate themselves by more than three goals from their opponent, but finally managed to secure their victory in the last ten minutes of the match.
The final tomorrow will begin at 17:30 hours local time.
In addition to the two semi-finals also the two matches of the Placement Round 5 – 8 took place in Prishtina. Here Estonia beat Cameroon 27:26 in the most dramatic match of the day and remains in hunt for the fifth place overall. Estonia will face Moldova in tomorrow's match for place 5, which scored a win versus Malta today at a final result of 33:19.
In Gjakova the matches for places 9 – 16 were staged today.
Albania managed to score their first win in the tournament, which will be enough for them to avoid being ranked as the bottom team. Albania beat Armenia 37:26. And also Ireland could celebrate a victory today, as Irish players managed a win versus Andorra with a final result of 29:36. China beat Bulgaria 28:27 in another rocky performance by their team, salvaged only in the very end of the game. Australia and Great Britain played in the penultimate game of the day, where Great Britain won 32:26.
