Competition schedule
The men’s and women’s tournaments will start on October 8 and the medal matches will be on Saturday, October 13. All the games will be held at Parque Sarmiento, a secondary venue of Tecnopolis Park.

Both tournaments will start with a preliminary round with two groups of six teams each. The first three teams in each group will pass to the final phase where they will carry over the points obtained against the opponents that also make it to the group of six but will only face opponents from the other zone.

The four first teams in the elimination stage will face one another to determine which teams will vie for the gold medal and the match for third place.

Site inspection, media interest
In addition to overseeing the draw, Masi also inspected the Olympic Park and Sarmiento Park, where beach handball will be played.

“I 'm very satisfied about the progress of the work of the Buenos Aires 2018 Organising Committee,” said Masi to IHF.info after the draw. “Both the Argentina coaches here at the draw underlined to the media how difficult the competition will be and what a high standard the participants will be playing at – confirming my own opinion.

“Many media representatives were in attendance at the draw which shows the interest of the media is very high for our sport,” he continued. “We are all very excited at the IHF to show how attractive beach handball is on a global scale and I'm sure the participants will experience the very best conditions in Buenos Aires for showing their very best.”
