Four Pan-American teams are still in the race for three tickets for the 2015 Men’s World Championship in Qatar: The preliminary round of the continental championship in Montevideo, Uruguay, had come to an end on Thursday night 26 June local time - and both top favourites have finished the first stage with a clean record of three wins.

Defending champions Argentina top group B after clear victories against Chile, Greenland and Mexico, while Brazil easily clinched the first position in group A after beating Uruguay, USA and Guatemala.

The most important decisions in both groups were which teams will follow the main contenders to the semi-finals, which will be carried out on Saturday 28 June. In group A host Uruguay beat USA in the decisive duel for the second position by 27:23, in group B Chile remained victorious (29:24) in the match against Greenland to make it to the semis.

So Argentina will face Uruguay and Brazil will compete with Chile (like in the eighth-final of the FIFA World Cup) for the ticket to the final. Both finalists and the team to finish on the bronze rank will qualify for Qatar. The final and bronze final will be played on Sunday 29 June.

The placement round starts with the matches Greenland vs. Guatemala and USA vs. Mexico on Saturday.
