The Olympic Movement had started a special youth campaign long before, but now sportsmen and sportswomen from all over the world and all sports meet in Singapore for the first time ever to hold Youth Olympic Games. Handball is an integral part of the Olympic Family, as handball has a great Olympic tradition and is known as one of the most watched Olympic TV sports in the last decades. So it was obvious that handball will be a part of the first Youth Olympic Games. Twelve teams – each six women’s and men’s youth teams – from five continents will go for the medals in Singapore. But competition is not everything at this YOG: The young people from all over the world will get in touch with sportsmen and sportswomen from other continents, together they will discuss the Olympic idea which means Fair Play, Anti-Doping and sports as a unifying spirit for the whole world.
